Public Television Stations WCVE and WCVW (Richmond) and WHTJ (Charlottesville) will be airing Richmond native Slash Coleman's award-winning one-man show "The Neon Man and Me" beginning tomorrow.
Coleman wrote and produced the show as a tribute to the life of his best friend, Mark Jamison, a neon artist from Roanoke who was electrocuted in 2004 as he was hanging a neon sign.
Since the first production in 2005, Coleman has taken the show on three national tours and has helped raise $50,000 for nonprofit organizations. The effort earned Coleman The Groucho award for best one-man show. The award is presented each year by the Comedy Sportz Improv Theatre to honor Richmond writers and actors who have made significant contributions to the theater community.
The production also has grown to include a public school curriculum funded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts called "Healing Community -- Helping Students Come to Terms With Tragedy, Loss and Violence."
Coleman recorded the show before a live audience at WCVE's studios this year.
The air dates are: WCVE and WHTJ, tomorrow, 10 p.m.; Thursday, 1 a.m.; and Nov. 24, 11 p.m. On WCVW, Saturday, 11 p.m. and Nov. 26 at 10 p.m.
