Monday, Oct 13, 2008 - 12:11 PM
University of North Carolina senior wide receiver Brandon Tate is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
UNC plays Virginia this weekend.
Tate suffered the injury during the first quarter of North Carolina's 29-24 win over Notre Dame on Saturday.
A medical exam later revealed that Tate tore his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament. He will have surgery this week.
From Burlington, N.C., Tate finishes his career as the NCAA's all-time leader in combined kick return yards with 3,523 yards. At the time of his injury, Tate was leading the ACC in all-purpose yards.
In the first six games of 2008, he had 376 receiving yards, 305 kickoff return yards, 158 punt return yards and 143 rushing yards.
